British superheroes began appearing in the Golden Age shortly after the first American heroes became popular in the UK.Most original British heroes were confined to anthology comics magazines such as Lion, Valiant, Warrior, and 2000AD. Crisis on Infinite Earths resulted in several miniseries' which explicitly retconned character histories, such as Batman: Year One, Superman: Man of Steel, and Wonder Woman: Gods and Mortals. Society began to loosen some of the taboos of that time, and the furor over the language suggested that the loosened traits needed to be reined in. With the continued influx of new characters and publishers, there will always be a solid foundation of new adventures to satisfy the fans. The term 'underground comics' was created by writer-editor Bhob Stewart during a panel discussion at the July 23, 1966, New York comics convention.
