Comic books encourage reading. They tap into your child's love of pictures, and pair them with words. These comic book selections are appropriate for ages 8 and up. This brought on the impression that comic books were "cheap" by definition, and neglected the fact that a dime was a lot of money at one time (steak & eggs cost 35 cents). There are some Marvel posters where the costumes will show the new looks or themes of certain costumes but you can still identify the character in the poster. Are they the best written and best illustrated. To make batman's character seem more human the creators of the series later added other characters to the Batman comics. The back-end royalties on merchandise, trade paperbacks and movie royalties are also generous. Viewed as juvenile, cheap or inferior forms of literature and art, comic books have had an uphill battle from day one.
